La Comida Downtown Move

Updated: May 28, 2021

La Comida’s Downtown Palo Alto location is moving to the First United Methodist Church on 625 Hamilton Ave. We will continue to serve boxed lunches out of our two locations in Palo Alto.

On June 1, 2021, La Comida will be moving from our Masonic Center Downtown Palo Alto location to a new location just a few blocks away:

                         First United Methodist Church
                                 625 Hamilton Avenue
The site will be facing Hamilton Avenue

Service hours will remain the same: Mondays through Fridays, 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Food service will be “to-go” meals.

Look for signs and banners on the sidewalk to help guide you to the area of distribution:

PLEASE NOTE!

  • Bathrooms will not be available to the public.
  • There is no eating on Church grounds.
  • If you are driving, park on Hamilton Ave (in front or near the site) or in the Webster/Cowper parking garage.

Just a REMINDER: Please continue to wear your masks, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer regularly and social distance. The CDC’s announcement about vaccinated individuals not wearing face masks does not overrule the local and state government. California still has a face mask mandate until June 15th. Please wear a mask when at our lunch service. We will let you know when the regulations change. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at our new location!

If you have questions or cannot locate us, please call La Comida at (650) 322-3742.

Background:
To fill a vital need for seniors during the Pamdemic, La Comida, Palo Alto’s only senior nutrition program, continues to serve boxed lunches “to go” at its two weekday lunch locations: Stevenson House and the First United Methodist Church. La Comida is practicing a social distancing approach to serving the boxed lunches. The professionally trained cooking staff follows Public Health and CDC guidelines in disinfecting all surfaces, wearing gloves in serving the boxed lunches, and providing hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial agents for the one-time registration needed to get started. To get started, patrons can register at either La Comida Stevenson or Methodist Church locations by filling out a one-page form and providing proof of age. Additional information and La Comida’s menu can be accessed at www.lacomida.org.

La Comida de California is a 501(c)3 organization and Palo Alto’s only senior nutrition program. Operating weekdays out of Stevenson House on East Charleston and the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Palo Alto at 625 Hamilton Avenue, La Comida serves a professionally-planned and thoughtfully-prepared menu that changes daily. Each three-course meal is delicious, warm, and includes the recommended daily dietary allowance for seniors. Before the Coronavirus outbreak, La Comida’s communal dining experience included music and activities to encourage seniors to come and build friendships and contributed to their feeling of belonging. Meals are subsidized so that they are affordable for low-income seniors. The organization suggests a $3 donation per meal for adults over 60 years of age and $8 for adults under 60. La Comida is where friends and food meet.
